Update December 8, 2023: Dr. Tom Snell’s Appointment on Alberta Premier’s Council on Skills Extended for Three More Years
I am thrilled to share some exciting news with you all regarding my recent appointment. On December 8, 2023, I received confirmation that my appointment to the Premier’s Council on Skills has been extended for an additional three years. It is truly an honor to continue serving in this capacity and contributing to the advancement of Alberta’s post-secondary education sector.
I am privileged to represent Alberta’s post-secondary education sector on the council. This council was established with the vital role of advising the Premier and the Minister of Advanced Education on how to align post-secondary education programs with the evolving needs of various industries. Our primary goal is to ensure that post-secondary graduates are equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in Alberta’s dynamic and ever-changing economy.
The work of the Premier’s Council on Skills involves facilitating input from strategically chosen industries and providing valuable advice regarding the alignment of existing and future educational programs within Alberta’s adult learning system to meet industry demands. By doing so, we aim to empower more students with the job-ready skills required for success in Alberta’s evolving economy.
It is important to note that the creation of the Premier’s Council on Skills fulfills a platform commitment and follows a recommendation of the Skills for Jobs Task Force. With a membership consisting of 11 influential industry stakeholders, our council is poised to offer insightful guidance to the Premier, through the Minister of Advanced Education, in strengthening post-secondary programming and aligning Alberta’s educational landscape with the present and future demands of industry.
